Our motorhome (2007 Lunar Champ) is needing 4 new tyres as they are over five years old and are covered in cracks.
Do we need to replace them with the camping tyres?
Does anyone have any tyre that they would recommend?

I am not sure if 'Camper' tyres are a legal requirement or not, it might give your insurance company a 'get out' if you had an accident and the van had ordinary tyres fitted. They say that 'Camper' tyres have better side walls to take the permanent loading of a camper, where as a van is empty a lot of the time. Also the UV resistance is supposed to be better which should help stop the cracking.
When we bought our present Camper I had a cursory look at the tyres and the tread looked like new, the camper had only done 26k miles but was 9 years old. Later with the van at home I noticed a small crack running around one of the rear tyres. So I checked the Date Stamp on all the tyres and they were all 9+ years old. Obviously the original tyres so I decided to replace them. I was impressed that the Michelin Agilis Camping tyres fitted had lasted so well that I bought 4 new ones (I couldn't afford 5 new ones at that times). The spare was changed later for a new Continental Vanco Camper.
The ride is OK, we played around with the pressures as the book says 80psi all round, which gave a very harsh ride. We settled on 75 front 70 rear. The 'On Road' grip is good but the grip on wet grass is not very good, however I believe this is normal for all van tyres.
