We are new to Motorhoming, so daft question time. Why do all Motorhomes seem to have one sliding window when all the rest of the windows open like caravan windows?

All of the windows on our motorhome are sliding windows. I don't know the answer to your question, but my guess would be safety. In the event of an accident you could exit our motorhome by all but two of the windows, whereas if the were hinged they would be restrictive or impossible to exit from. Obviously you do not occupy a caravan when it is in motion, so the same rule would not apply. As I say, I don't know, but this would be my best guess..

Hi Alamanda, thanks for your reply, but the sliding window is too small for me for me to fit though, I'm pretty sure Hazel, who is nowhere near as err Portly as me, could get not through it either.
I have now been told that it is for ventilation for any passengers in the back of the MH, as it can be left open while traveling.

Not all motorhomes have sliding windows, Helga's windows are all top hinged. So I thisnk the answer might well be more along the lines of designers choice.

I agree. Not one slider in Hermann's portfolio of portholes.

Trooper In my experience, European motorhomes have hinged windows and Americans have sliders. Could be because Americans use glass, not plastic and glass windows would be very heavy when hinged at the top.
