I have been caravanning for the last 30+ years, and just bought my first motorhome, a 2001 Bessacar E745, why the hell did I not do it years ago, it is so easy to set up, no more lugging water and getting rid of the waste, just pull up, connect up and feet up, bliss. Used it about half a dozen times and really enjoyed it, with no back ache and lost temper, so relaxing. Just bought a Peugot 107 to tow behind it, can't decide A frame or trailer.

Welcome, sounds like our history and reactions are exactly the same, I have bought a couple of bikes to hang on the back, should make us more mobile and help to improve our fitness, mind you it's easier here in France!

My wife cannot ride a bike, plus she cannot walk too far, so towing a small car is the answer for us.

This has always been the case, both France and Spain only allow A frame towing in the case of a breakdown and then only by a recovery specialist. The article in le monde du camping car refers to an attempt to change the situation but the attempt failed.
Yes you will find people towing with an A Frame in France, but the Minister quite clearly stated that it was illegal and should there be an accident involving a car being 'A' Framed then the insurance company would be within their rights to refuse any pay out. Much safer to use a small Trailer and much less stress on the small car.

Some one over on AOL seems to have picked this up, usual suspects are suffering from apoplexy. Int it nice and quiet over here!

Motorhome channel had an article on this just this week. If your car is registered after Nov 2014 then it must be towed using a trailer,in the UK. New motorhome towing an older car is OK though(?) Quite why the date of registration bears any part in towing safety escapes me, but there it is. It's all about braking effectiveness apparently. It seems some Eurocrat was scared by a motorhome towing a car once.

Cant blame the Eurocrats for that, The new ruling is home grown, most of the rest of Europe have frowned upon the practice for years.
