I thought I would try and get some chat going on here as generally were all quite friendly and enjoy a chat, While I put the kettle on My hubby is always on the lookout for someone to pass the time of day with so I thought I would throw some topics to get you started. Typical Bank Holiday weather given seems like an unsettled weekend. How many people are put off by Bank holiday traffic? How many people are put off by the weather? How many people use thier campers all year round? What have your experiances been taking your motor home abroad? Do you find that this country has so much beautiful scenery that you haven't considered going abroad? What problems have you come across regarding wild camping if you have ever wild camped? Do you prefer camp sites or doing your own thing being a free spirit? Do you enjoy quiet sites or sites with pools and clubs?

Hi we use our van most of the year wild camping and sites even if we only go a few miles away, and never put off by the weather, with the only consideration we make regarding the weather is where is the better weather, having camped and caravaned for many years in the UK buying a motorhome has increased our freedom and have made a number of trips to France and beyond in the past 3 years, and really love mainland Europe with its easygoing attitude towards camping cars and aires de service. I wish that this country would look on motorhomes with a more relaxed attitude . Rob

The Witch and I try to get away as much as possible, unfortunately she works in a food store and very rarely gets a free weekend, but when she does we make the most of it. Thankfully she retires next year so we will be able to get away whenever we wish. The weather does not put us off, we actually spent a very enjoyable weekend (on one of her rare free weekends) at a small CC Certified Location at Carlisle in February.
As for the Bank Holiday traffic, no problem, we just take it easy and pass the time by counting oncoming motorhomes, waving as they pass.
We are looking to go further afield next year and head off to Spain for three weeks, just going to spend this year getting used to Helga before we venture abroad.

We love using our Autotrail Mohican (called Daisy) whenever we get the chance, which is usually every other weekend. We like to seek out inexpensive smaller sites because all we really require is peace and quiet combined with a short walk to a country pub We have often used the van overnight in pub car parks too, more so in the colder months. We find the country pubs at that time of year are only too pleased to have us for a meal and a few drinks, and we don't have to worry about driving home. As we both run our own businesses from home, we really value getting away in our 'escape pod' and relaxing wherever, whenever the fancy takes us. Our van represents freedom, and we love it.

Hi Watercruiser we did a small amount of wild camping on Lewis this year and we will be doing a lot more to get away from the crowds. we run a auto sleeper legend (1997), we are trying to get away mid week when possible as my wife works Saturday and Sunday most weeks. The trip to Lewis was for ten days and 1,400 miles going to Skye as well as the highlands. have you looked on line at the nomads web site. The other thing I would ask members has anybody fitted heavy duty rear springs (not air ride) to ageing motorhomes ?.

Hi Snoozy no problem fitting heavy duty springs to a ducato, what you need is twin leaf commercial springs that can be obtained from any local spring supplier at a very reasonable price , compared to Fiat ones very expensive. If I remember rightly well below Fiat price. the job is well within diy as long as you have a decent toolbox. you will also need a good 5 ton jack or some thing similar . When I did mine a few years ago it only took a couple of hours. The only thing you may find is that when empty you will be slightly up at the back end but we have never needed to use any ramps when parked up ,also when we have our Scooter on the back its perfectly level, even when all tanks are full. also if when you park up you find that the ground is sloping you simply turn round ,don't forget these are commercial ,white van man etc. Hope this helps, if you require any further info your welcome to ask. Regards All the best for the New Year.

Hi
We have only travelled in this country as yet but would like to go to Europe some time. Scotland is my fav place but I am perhaps a little biased as I live there. The isle of Skye and Bute are very nice and there are loads of places on the west coast that are stunning. We tend to wild camp but sometimes spend a night or two on small sites when a little more facilities are needed. We have a 2002 Hymer B564 which is not too big and suits our needs perfectly.
