Can anyone please give some advice on batteries when the unit is plugged into the mains I believe this will charge the internal battery, once this is fully charged am I correct in thinking that this automatically changes to the engine battery thus providing both batteries with a top up system. We have a Marquis Majestic Motorhome on Peugot base

I'm guessing that all makes of MotorHome have different systems but I know my Elnagh charges both batteries at the same time when connected to the mains. Hopefully someone with the same Make as yours can give you a better answer.

We have a Marquis Majestic Motorhome on Peugot base Hi I have had problems with my batteries going flat on my Auto-trail Apache, 2012 model, so added a Solar Panel. When discussing it with the installer, Leisure Power he said the charger switches between vehicle and leisure battery when there is a discrepancy of 1.1 volts, this is with both the vehicle charging circuit and the solar panel. I did discuss the problem with the vehicle supplier Brownhills but it was clear they didn't understand the workings and couldn't solve the on-going problem. The moral of the story is speak to an Independent Specialist rather than certainly this Dealership.

Flat batteries are a big issue in modern motorhomes. All of the base vehicles take power from the vehicle battery when they are standing idle. This powers a number of electronic systems such as radios, alarms and vehicle monitoring. Even the habitation side takes power unless it is fully powered down. You need to keep your batteries charged as it does them no good at all to let them go flat.

Hi After my base vehicle battery going flat early in the early winter, I've taken to having the 230 volt supply permanently connected to the van. Is this a good idea throughout the whole of the winter while the van is unused

Hi Andy, the show is great by the way. My problem is also on a Peugeot based Compass Avantgarde 180. on a 59 plate. After standing unused for six days at the end of January, My vehicle would not start. Flat battery, showed 6.4 volts on metre. A.A. called tested battery advised to replace as charge from alternator was fine but battery not holding charge. Fitted new battery, however two days later battery flat again, when tested also showed 6.4 volts. I then connected CTEC smart charger over night while vehicle connected to 230 volt hook up. Result battery charge showed 12.5 volts. My question is, Is it acceptable to have CTEC charger connected at the same time as the split charger through the leisure battery system on this type of vehicle and does the battery negative post have to be disconnected while CTEC charger is connected, if battery is charged in vehicle ? I also have had a leisure battery fry while connected to mains supply on another motorhome which was put down to cell degradation. quick fix was to replace that battery also. Result : No more battery problems to date that I sold that vehicle.

Hi Penfold, I think you need to sort out what is draining you Battery so quickly before you start worrying about chargers.
The fact that your new Battery went down to 6.4v in just 2 days means either a large drain on the Battery or the new Battery is Duf.
